  • 2007-06-30: jLibrary 1.1 released!

After more than one year, jLibrary 1.1 is now available. As many of you probably know the reason for this delay has been my new job, city, and the lack of time to perform necessary updates. But finally this new version is here.

This new version has several new features but as a consequence of the above fact, some old features has been removed from this version. None of the features removed are really core or fundamental for the application behaviour (like help, cheatsheets or intro pages). The lack of time and people to support made to drop them from this release.

The main new features in this version are Maven 2 support, ability to define custom properties and add them to your documents, migration to Eclipse 3.2, HTTP protocol is now the default replacing Web Services that become optional, HTTP streaming support for binary content, and finally as a consequence of the new HTTP default protocol feature is the low memory compsumption usage and better performance.

You can check the release notes for finding a more complete changes listing.

And go to the downloads section if you want to try jLibrary now!
  • 2007-06-19: Submit your repositories for jLibrary 1.1

jLibrary 1.1 is due to arrive. The code is quite stable now but I would like to be sure that there is no incompatibilities when importing your repositories. So, if you want to be sure that jLibrary imports your data from 1.0.x versions you have the opportunity to test it. Just send me a link to your repo or a subset (mpermar at gmail dot com) and I will try to import it.

  • 2007-05-27 : New build deployment and developers guide

Many people have reported that jLibrary currently has code in the SVN and CVS repositories in sourceforge.net. That´s true. The new version of jLibrary (hopefully soon) is now hosted at sourceforge.net´s SVN. I have updated the build guide and the developers guide to show how easy is now to develop and build jLibrary releases from your own. More news about the new release soon.

  • 2006-07-16 : How to integrate third party plug-in editors with jLibrary

I have created a new article that shows how to integrate editors from third party plug-ins with jLibrary. This article shows how you can add your editors as new pages on the jLibrary document editors, so when you open a document you will see a new page with your third party editor embedded.

The article, How to create a Rules Management Repository with jLibrary and Drools, puts Drools as an example, and shows how to embedd the Drools DSL and DRL editors within jLibrary.

I hope it will be useful.

  • 2006-07-13 : jLibrary developers guide updated to 1.0.2 and Callisto

I have updated the jLibrary developers guide to show how to start with the current version, 1.0.2, and Eclipse's more recent version, Callisto. Enjoy it!

  • 2006-06-22 : jLibrary 1.0.2 released!

The unfortunate bug within jLibrary 1.0.1 version has been fixed and jLibrary 1.0.2 is ready to be downloaded. You can download it from the downloads section.

  • 2006-05-20 : Important flaw in jLibrary 1.0.1

Some people reported in the jLibrary forums general problems with jLibrary 1.0.1. I have found that these problems come from a very improtant flaw in jLibrary. If you try to add several files and directories at once, a transaction will be hold open and then you wont't be able to perform any other operation on the repository. The solution is obvious: Don't add several files at once, but also unacceptable so I will release a 1.0.2 version as soon as possible.

My apologizes for the caused problems.

  • 2006-05-18 : jLibrary 1.0.1 released!

One month after jLibrary release we are proud to announce that jLibrary 1.0.1 is now available. jLibrary 1.0.1 is a bugfix release that solves many bugs but also adds some features. Some of the new features are new Galician, Portuguese and Russian translations and also the integration of the JCRBrowser project under a new JCR perspective that will allow you to see the internals of your repository information.

You can find more info about the new JCR perspective in the Using the JCR Browser bundled with jLibrary article.

This bugfix release must be installed over the client and the server so it's very important to follow the Migration Guide instructions.

Don't forget to download the new release.

  • 2006-05-18 : jLibrary 1.0 final released!

After many months of hard work, jLibrary 1.0 final has been released. Thanks to all the people that during this three months have been helping, giving feedback and sending contributions. The new version has a lot of improvements respect to the previous version and also has greatly increased its performance, stability and escalability. You can download the latest version from the Downloads section but don't forget to take a look at the Release notes to find more information about this release.

  • 2006-04-08 : New documentation available

jLibrary final version release is very near now and so I'm creating some more documentation to easy product adoption. I have updated the FAQ document with some new questions and answers. There is also a brand new jLibrary configuration guide that explains a lot of stuff related to jLibrary customization like using external databases, storing contents on custom directories, changing search and indexing properties, etc. I also have created a new Miration Guide that explains how you can migrate from older versions to new version. Note that this is part of the final 1.0 documentation so you won't need to learn about migration until 1.0 release -it will be soon :).

Finally, many people were asking if he could use their external security systems to work with jLibrary. I have added a new Using External Security Systems guide that can help you to integrate jLibrary with your LDAP or database for doing all the security stuff.

    Enjoy the documents!

  • 2006-04-01 : Spanish EclipseCon 2006 report

I have created a little report in Spanish about the EclipseCon 2006. I won't be publishing many info in Spanish language on the site, but this is a requirement due to sponsorship. If you want to see a detailed report you can track my my weblog entries about EclipseCon 2006. If you have Spanish knowledge, then you may want to take a look at it.

  • 2006-03-19 : Unofficial jLibrary release for EclipseCon

As jLibrary is going to be shown at EclipseCon 2006 and as I suppose that there will be people interesting in testing jLibrary, We took the decission to release an unofficial jLibrary. This is like a RC1 if you like to see it like that, as jLibrary final won't have any major changes other than the ones offered by this preview. Anyways, it's only there for testing and reference. The documentation, instructions, new and noteworthy, etc., won't be available until the final version. But who cares, you can enjoy this :-) Check the new version is you want.

Update: I have updated the server package as there was a bug with the authors subsystem. This is the problem with this kind of last-minute releses ;)

  • 2006-03-01 : jLibrary developer first steps now easier

jLibrary project has been reestructured in a way that now is very easy to download the CVS code and build your own jLibrary distribution to play with the code. Now, in only five steps you can become a jLibrary developer! Be sure to check the new developers guide.

  • 2006-02-15 : jLibrary freezes: jLibrary 1.0beta4 patch released

Some users have reported problems when using jLibrary standalone servers. It seemed that jLibrary freezed randomly and the UI became unusable. The fact, that we have detected a problem with Axis 1.3 compression. It seems that is not as stable as we wish, and so we have removed it from the beta4. You can download the fixed jLibrary releases from our downloads section.

    Sorry for the incovenience.

If you do not want to download all the files, as they are really big. You can simple to to this folder, grab all the files, and overwrite your local files. It will simply fix the problem.

Also, if you go through the full new install path, remember to export your repositories data. So, when you reinstall jLibrary you can reimport that data. Well, this can be not necessary in the case of local server, but do it, a repositories backup is always a good thing. :-)

  • 2006-02-01 : Don't forget to see the jLibrary 1.0beta4 Screencasts

I have created a new section with several Screencast presentations. In these presentations you can see videos of common repository operations, document editing, searching, category management, browsing and crawling web resources, etc. Take your time to see all the files. These videos require Macromedia Flash installed on your browser to be displayed correctly.

    Go to screencasts...
