jLibrary 1.0 beta2 - What's new

User interface

In this version there has been several user interface changes:

  • Repository view filters.
  • Added an authors view, that allows create, edit and remove authors.
  • The traditional dialogs has been mostly replaced with modern wizards.
  • Brand new splash screen and icons, but we continue to look help on this. We need a logo and related graphics!
  • Improved OLE support with read-write access. Now you can edit your word files , excel files, etc.
  • Node decoration support. Locked nodes will appear decorated with a lock icon. Nodes updated or removed from another user will also appear decorated.
  • Lock information within node tooltips.
  • Improved drag & drop support. Now it's possible to drag and drop multiple documents, drop documents into categories, drop documents into favorites, drag documents over different repositories, etc.
  • Improved cut, copy, paste support. Now it's possible to copy, cut and paste multiple documents, even within different repositories.
  • Better logging support. Now .log files are generated under the workspace/org.jlibrary.client/logs directory.
  • Several bugs have been fixed.

Help and support

In this version we have worked hardly on internationalization, help and support:

  • All the resouces are internationalized to English and Spanish. This includes native messages, export templates, help, cheatsheets, etc.
  • Brand new introduction pages.
  • Ten cheatsheets have been created and internationalized.
  • New help layout, internationalized, and created through jLibrary static HTML export system.

jLibrary HTML export

Now, it's very easy to export jLibrary repositories to HTML, thanks to the new freemarker template based system.

  • Several default templates available.
  • Easy generation of new templates through freemarker library.
  • Static read-only HTML views of your repositories.
Web client

The brand new jLibrary web client will allow access to your repository through any standar web browser. This component has been developed by NHT Norwick and the development has been lead by Alberto Molpeceres. These are some of the features:

  • Read only access to jLibrary repositories. It's an ideal frontend for public access to your data.
  • Interface accessible from any standard web browser.
  • Based on canyamo.
  • Easy navigation throug a web interface:
  • Categories perspective support.
  • Ability to browse document properties, versions and to download documents.
  • Search toolbar.

jLibrary Server

The jLibrary core server has evolved in the last months. These are some of the changes:

  • Added logging support. Now the log files are generated at the logs tomcat directory.
  • Added a better pooling system based on c3p0 library.
  • The restrictions and permissions system is now more flexible.
  • A second level cache has been added to improve scalability and concurrency.
  • Several bugs have been fixed.
  • Improved PDF text extraction support.
  • Added indexing support for more than 11 languages. Several languages have now stemming algorithms support.
  • Added text extraction engines for Powerpoint and Excel files.
  • Improved html parser engine.
  • Improved keywords extraction engine.
